"ABAD" beneficiary: Amiraslan Shamilov | Region: Sheki | National scarves (kelaghayi and others)

The gradual development of sericulture has triggered the Keleghayi (Azeri silk headscarf) craft in Shaki.
The talented masters of ancient Shaki are prominent in Azerbaijan for their elegant silk headscarves which are still in use today as a unit of the garment in the country.
Amiraslan Shamilov is one of the craftsmen receiving the support from ABAD Public Legal Entity. Mr.Shamilov has been doing this craft for 48 years now and he remarks that he has inherited this craft from his forefathers.
He embroiders the exquisite ornaments on these scarfs mostly preferring “Buta” patterns (Buta is a type of decorative patterns looks alike to almond or bud. It is prevalent decorative element of Azerbaijani Ornamental Art).
Mr.Shamilov has joined the ABAD family in order to make this craft known worldwide and pass it on to the next generations.
The mesmerizing handicrafts of the master are put up for sale and display in all the ABAD exhibition and sales centers.
