"ABAD" beneficiary: Rashad Aghayev | Region: Salyan | Wood carving
Rashad Aghayev

Rashad Aghayev, a resident of Chadırlı in Salyan district, is a master of wood carving supported by ABAD. Despite his physical disabilities, Rashad has been actively integrating into society since childhood, striving to make the most of his time. This determination led him to the Vocational Rehabilitation Center for Youth with Health Limitations in Ramana, where he first encountered the art of wood carving.

Under the guidance of professionals at the center, Rashad quickly excelled, earning the title of the best student of the year. He began working independently, establishing himself as a skilled artisan who continuously refines his craft. He describes his passion:

“Carving art onto wood brings me immense joy; it captivates my heart and brings me peace. Looking at my creations uplifts my spirit. All my souvenirs are dear to me, but those featuring buta patterns, musical instruments like the tar, kamancha, and qaval, and historical monuments like Qız Qalası are my favorites.”

From a young age, Rashad set a goal to be self-sufficient, relying on his own efforts for his livelihood. After learning about ABAD at the Vocational Rehabilitation Center, he joined the project, stating:

“I can now showcase my products and am fully supported. ABAD is a great opportunity for people with physical disabilities to create and sell handmade works from home, earning an income.”

Today, Rashad sustains himself through his craft, remaining independent and deeply committed to his art. He tirelessly works to develop his skills, seeking innovation and new possibilities. His handcrafted works are available for purchase at ABAD exhibition and sales centers
