The art of wood carving represents a distinctive branch of decorative-applied craftsmanship. Historically, master artisans in Azerbaijan skillfully carved wood to create widely used items such as spoons, bowls, trays, and various household utensils and objects. Vugar Aliyev, an ABAD artisan, actively contributes to this traditional craft. He shares:

“I learned this art from my elder brother. Observing him, I realized that crafting a souvenir through wood carving is a complex process. It requires proficiency as a calligrapher, ornamentist, and painter, as this craft is deeply intertwined with these disciplines. Success in this art demands skill, taste, a strong memory, creative ability, patience, attention to detail, and a sense of aesthetics.”

Vugar Aliyev contributes to ABAD by producing souvenirs in the form of miniature replicas of traditional Azerbaijani musical instruments, crafted using wood carving techniques. Additionally, his intricately designed small chests have garnered significant interest from buyers. Vugar Aliyev’s handcrafted souvenirs are available for purchase at ABAD sales centers.
