"ABAD" beneficiary: Jamila Ganiyeva | Region: Baku | Carpet weaving
Jamila Ganiyeva, a resident of Qobu settlement in the Absheron district,
is among those who sustain the art of Azerbaijani carpet weaving, a
distinguished form of the nation’s folk craftsmanship. After completing
secondary school, Ganiyeva pursued qualifications in labor and calligraphy
instruction but never practiced professionally in these fields.
From a young age, she has devoted herself to the craft of weaving
carpets and rugs. Reflecting on her journey, she states:
“I honed my skills in this craft under the guidance of the renowned
Master Daglar. Initially, I focused on visualizing traditional patterns, but
later I began weaving tablecloths and portraits. I even created woven portraits
of National Leader Heydar Aliyev and his family members, which I presented as
gifts.”
Ganiyeva recently became acquainted with the ABAD program. She notes
that the warm and welcoming demeanor of its staff was particularly impressive
during her application process. She further expresses:
“Every aspect of ABAD feels familiar and dear to me. I have great faith
in ABAD, and it is my ardent wish to see the establishment of an Azerbaijani
Carpet Weaving Association under its auspices.”
