"ABAD" beneficiary: Shaig Aghayev | Region: Khachmaz | Coppersmithing and embossing

Born in Khachmaz, Shaig Aghayev graduated from Azerbaijan State Academy of Fine Arts by a degree in acting. He is a TV Host for the time being. Nevertheless, he is attached to decorative-applied folk art and engaged in its metal embossing field.

“I have learnt the subtleties of this craft from my uncle Zeydulla Aghayev, who is currently operating as an ABAD member. My childhood memories are filled with metal beating sounds. Of course, as I was very keen on learning new things from my childhood, I would have felt guilty, if I did not learn this art from him”, - he remarks.

Thus, the young Shaig learns the secrets of coppersmithing. However, according to him, copper was very difficult to find at that time, and therefore, he would run trials on iron, which would eventually become rusty. But since there are no obstacles to finding raw material, his handiworks are getting better:

“Frankly speaking, as I moved to Baku and started to work in television, embossing craft eclipsed. I never thought that this art would make profit for me. Hearing about my uncle’s prosperous partnership with ABAD, I decided to join as well.”
