Mammad Rashidov, a distinguished artisan from Baku, Azerbaijan, is a modern sculptor whose innovative works blend contemporary artistry with the rich cultural heritage of his homeland. A graduate of the Azerbaijan State Academy of Fine Arts, Mammad’s passion for art was ignited in childhood, inspired by his mother’s mastery of decorative-applied folk crafts.

From an early age, Mammad was drawn to visual arts, particularly installations, sculptures, and contemporary art objects. His creations are deeply rooted in Azerbaijan’s cultural identity, incorporating national motifs such as Gobustan rock paintings, Absheron patterns, and ethnic forms. “I strive to weave our historical monuments and ornaments into modern compositions,” he shares, “creating works that carry profound meaning for future generations, not just as souvenirs but as conceptual art.”

Before joining ABAD, Mammad supplied his sculptures to art galleries and souvenir boutiques but found their commission policies limiting. Inspired by his mother’s successful collaboration with ABAD, he joined the public legal entity, drawn to its mission of promoting Azerbaijan’s cultural heritage. “ABAD’s support has made my works more accessible at fair prices,” he notes, “allowing me to focus on artistry and cultural advocacy rather than sales alone.”

Mammad’s captivating sculptures, reflecting Azerbaijan’s historical and ethnic essence, are available at ABAD ethno-boutiques, and the ABADhandicrafts Instagram page.
