Zara Aliyeva

Zara Aliyeva, a Baku resident, is an artisan dedicated to the art of carpet weaving. Trained as a carpet weaving technologist, Zara notes that mastering the intricacies of this craft has been one of her primary goals. She is also committed to reviving forgotten Azerbaijani carpet types, such as the chiy carpet, to reintroduce them to contemporary audiences.

“For instance, Sumakh carpets were traditionally woven, but the zili type was often overlooked. Now, I focus on reviving these ancient carpet styles using traditional methods,” she explains.

Zara places special importance on passing her knowledge to future generations, ensuring the continuity of this cultural heritage. Through her collaboration with ABAD, she believes her efforts will significantly contribute to promoting Azerbaijan’s traditional carpet types globally and inspiring new artisans to join the craft.

Zara Aliyeva’s handcrafted works, which uphold the traditions of Azerbaijan’s ancient carpet weaving schools, are currently displayed and available for purchase at ABAD craftsmanship centers.
