One of the most exquisite and distinguished branches of Azerbaijan’s traditional crafts is Shebeke – a unique form of stained-glass latticework. This intricate art has been especially well-preserved and developed in the city of Shaki. The most prominent example of this craftsmanship is the magnificent Palace of the Shaki Khans, built in the 18th century, which features delicate geometric ornaments and Shebeke panels that continue to mesmerize visitors to this day.

Among the artisans keeping this ancient tradition alive is Vugar Rasulzade, a member of ABAD and a native of Shaki. Born into a family of master Shebeke craftsmen, Rasulzade proudly carries forward the legacy of his grandfather and father.

“In our family workshop, I inherited this craft from my grandfather and father. I have continuously worked to improve and refine my skills,” – he notes.

Having mastered every aspect of this delicate art, Vugar Rasulzade is now recognized not only in Shaki but across the entire country. He has participated in numerous exhibitions and has been awarded various diplomas, including honors at prestigious international showcases.

In support of preserving and promoting Shebeke art, ABAD has partnered with Rasulzade, assisting him in marketing and sales efforts. Today, his handcrafted Shebeke pieces are exhibited and available for purchase at ABAD’s artisan centers.
