"ABAD" beneficiary: Mukhtar Mahmudov | Region: Ismayilly | Millinery

Ismayilli district-based artisan Muxtar Mahmudov has been practicing the traditional art of leatherworking since childhood, a craft he inherited from his father and grandfather. With decades of experience, Mr. Mahmudov produces a wide range of handcrafted leather goods, including shoes, belts, jackets, and saddles — all created with a refined aesthetic sense and exceptional craftsmanship.
According to the artisan, leatherworking has historically been one of the most developed forms of craftsmanship in Lahij, following metalworking. His works reflect both the rich heritage of the region and his personal mastery of the craft.
While his products have found appreciation among local residents and tourists visiting Lahij, the limited market size posed challenges in reaching a broader audience and sustaining consistent sales.
Through his collaboration with ABAD, Mr. Mahmudov’s creations are now presented to a wider public via ABAD’s artisan centers, enabling him to share the cultural value of his craft with customers across the country and beyond.
