According to “ABAD”’s internal statistics, among the souvenirs taken from Azerbaijan as keepsakes, decorated armudu (pear-shaped) glasses hold a leading position. These glasses are crafted in a national style using various decorative art techniques, including stained glass (vitraj). For this reason, many artisans applying to “ABAD” prioritize producing items that align with buyers’ interests.
One of the skilled masters of stained glass art is “ABAD” craftsman Aysel Mammadova. While working as a piano teacher, Aysel has also been engaged in stained glass art for the past eight years alongside her primary profession.
“Stained glass is an artwork created using colored glass, transparent paints, or light-transmitting coatings, featuring various themes and ornaments. I discovered this art through the internet, and it captivated me,” she said.
As her craftsmanship improved, Aysel Mammadova began thinking about generating income from this work. Her initial creations were sold at the souvenir corner of the Carpet Museum and the Khatai Art Center.
“After learning about ‘ABAD,’ I believed this organization would open doors to broader markets, and I was not mistaken. The ‘ABAD’ brand is a leader in Azerbaijan in promoting national souvenirs. I am satisfied with the progress of my work, and I am currently studying national ornaments in greater depth while striving to advance my craft further,” she stated.
It should be noted that Aysel Mammadova’s eye-catching handmade works can be purchased through “ABAD” ethno-boutiques and the @abadhandicrafts page.
