"ABAD" beneficiary: Rahila Huseynova | Region: Baku | Decorative-applied art
Rahila Huseynova, a resident of Baku, is an artisan of decorative-applied arts affiliated with “ABAD.” From childhood, our “ABAD” artisan, who exhibited a profound interest in painting, specialized as a fashion designer.
“My grandmothers, my mother, and, in general, the majority of the women in our lineage were highly proficient in the arts of sewing and knitting, possessing exceptional manual skills. I also continued their tradition. My son and daughter-in-law are also painters. In the early stages of my professional activities, I crafted custom-ordered daily and festive garments, adorning them with hand-stitched beadwork. As a hobby, I also created intriguing souvenirs from seashells.”
When the development of tourism in Azerbaijan heightened the market demand for local souvenirs, Ms. Rahila decided to redirect her professional focus and engage in the creation of national souvenirs.
“I deeply cherish national patterns, and the growing interest in them inspired me to produce national garments, dolls dressed in national attire, headscarves, cushions, and decorative items. To offer my works for sale, I sought out national souvenir shops and initiated collaborations. I participated in exhibitions. However, these activities were seasonal, which caused me concern. After becoming acquainted with ‘ABAD’ and joining its ranks, I have found complete peace of mind. Thanks to this organization, I no longer focus solely on garments and accessories but have also returned to my former hobby of creating souvenirs. By incorporating national patterns onto various vessels and painting compositions of buta and pomegranates, which I deeply love, I supply them for sale.”
