"ABAD" beneficiary: Ulviyya Kheyrullazade | Region: Baku | Painting (vitrage, leather, silk)

Ulviyya Kheyrullazade, an artisan supported by ABAD, resides in Baku and specializes in the art of decorative glass painting. Although her formal education was in a different field, she has always been drawn to applied and decorative arts — a passion she eventually transformed into a professional pursuit.
To master her craft, Ms. Kheyrullazade sought guidance from experienced artisans, receiving training in various disciplines of decorative-applied art. While she explored multiple techniques and styles, she ultimately chose painting as the form of expression closest to her heart.
Her artistic practice focuses on painting intricate patterns onto glassware — including bottles, cups, saucers, and panels — using specialized paints and fine brushwork. Initially creating her works as personalized gifts for friends and family, she gradually began accepting commissioned orders as her skills evolved and recognition of her work grew.
A distinguishing feature of her creations is the emphasis on traditional Azerbaijani motifs. Ms. Kheyrullazade integrates national ornamentation into her designs to both celebrate and promote Azerbaijan’s rich cultural heritage. She also draws inspiration from Azerbaijani carpet art, incorporating its characteristic patterns and color combinations into her painted works. To deepen her knowledge, she actively researches carpet-making traditions and consults with experts in the field.
Encouraged by the success she has achieved in the past four years, Ms. Kheyrullazade made the decision to turn her art into a family business. To advance this goal, she reached out to ABAD for support.
She now benefits from a wide range of services provided by ABAD, including marketing, branding, design consultation, and product sales support. Her elegant and culturally inspired pieces are available at ABAD’s Handicraft and Sales Centers and are increasingly sought after by customers.
To further expand her reach, ABAD has also facilitated her access to corporate clients, supporting her in the preparation of customized, large-scale orders.
Ms. Kheyrullazade notes that the growing demand for her handcrafted items and the steady development of her family business have motivated her to engage others in the field. She is now eager to share her knowledge and skills, helping newcomers explore the rich potential of this traditional art form.
