"ABAD" beneficiary: Elvira Ramazanova | Region: Baku | Decorative-applied art

The oldest archaeological finds containing evidence of the use of felt are in Turkey. Felting is the perfect needlecraft that gives you the opportunity to transform plain sheets of wool felt into incredible decorations and ornamental toys.
Felt art has developed from ancient times in Azerbaijan. It was developed by craftspeople skilled in bonding technique which transfers loose fibre, usually wool, into a sheer fabric. Felting dates back across time and cultures, continuing today as a wonderful medium for experimentation in shape, colour and texture.
Elvira prepares artistic felt toys based on needle felting technique:
"I am engaged in this craft for over than 4 years. But at first it was a real challenge to sell these handicrafts in my hometown. For some reason, the demand on the brooches I made in the same technique was high, but the toys that I prepared with great love were out of focus. "
According to Elvira, she used to bring her toys to the Russian market:
"But I was not satisfied inside. Being recognized for my work abroad is in harmony with my ambitions, but first of all, I would like to contribute development of this craft in our country. I was delighted that my art finally will be acclaimed when I heard that ABAD is in search of artists who are working with felt . Today, my toys are already available at ABAD stores. These handicrafts enjoy great popularity among costumers."
We invite you to "ABAD" stores to get acquainted with Elvira Ramazanova's fascinating handicrafts.
