"ABAD" beneficiary: Jamila Hajisamedzadeh | Region: Sheki | Decorative-applied art

Being a specialist on artistic embroidery,
Jamila was born in Sheki.
She is a culturologist by occupation and
has specialised in the surrounding of painter and sculptors.
She worked as a junior scientific worker at
Sheki Regional Scientific Centre of Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences
(ANAS):
"Under the supervision of honoured
architect Nargiz Askerzadeh, I studied national ornaments one by one. At
present, I'm engaged in sewing national costumes in real sizes and for dolls. I
make dolls myself as well. Each of the ornaments that I depict on garments is a
single symbol. "
Having a date designated as a National
Dress day in Azerbaijan – this is the biggest desire of Jamila:
“From kids to grown-ups everyone would go
around in a traditional dress whole day on such a holiday. We must not forget
our history and should be proud of every aspect of national culture, and we
have to appreciate it.”
"Having a lack of attention was not
only toward clothes but also toward folk artists in Azerbaijan previously.
Owing to ABAD, this approach has changed a
lot. This project will contribute to the development of tourism as well as will
take care of artisans. I have repeatedly observed that tourists are looking for
local souvenirs and trying to avoid Chinese products. I already have the right
address to direct them. The right direction is - ABAD! ".
