Balakan
Balakan is a district at northwestern Azerbaijan, located between Georgia and Russia. It borders Kakheti of Georgia to south and west, and Dagestan of Russia to east and north. The rayon is situated at the foothills of Greater Caucasus and is very rich with flora and fauna.
The Balakan district has very rich mineral resources. Filizçay, Tenros, Katsdağ, and Katex Polycarbonate deposits are rich in copper, lead, zinc, and sulfur. According to its reserves, Filizcay is considered one of the largest in Europe.
