
On August 23, 2022, a
delegation headed by the chairman of Bergama municipality of Izmir province of
Turkey, which is twinned with Sheki, Hakan Koshtu, visited Sheki city, the
ancient land of Azerbaijan.
As part of the visit,
the guests toured the territory of the ““Yukhari Bash” State
Historical-Architectural Reserve. The official delegation also visited the ABAD
Ceramics and Applied Art center which is located within the territory of the
reserve.
Representatives of
Sheki City Executive Power and MP Vugar Iskenderov took part in the meeting.
The guests were given detailed information about the center.
It was brought to
attention that ABAD Ceramics and Applied Art Center was launched on October 29,
2018. The building of the center was constructed at the end of the 19th century
and used as a barracks. As of now, furnished with modern equipment, the center
contributes to the preservation and transmission of the historical ceramic
traditions of the country, mainly of the Sheki region, as well as to the
promotion of different types of Azerbaijani clay in the world. The city of
Sheki was selected as a member of the European Route of Ceramics due to the
establishment of the first Ceramics Center in the South Caucasus, ABAD Ceramics
and Applied Art Center in Sheki, and the holding of the International Ceramics
Symposium through this center.
